36 North & South icons
36 icons of the so-wonderful-it-can-never-be-iconed-enough North & South. This time I've got a few icontest entries in there, as well as one of Higgins and Bessie. I was really going for a "grittier" look this time, since the story is so serious, and the setting rather "gritty" in itself. ;-) I love that about this story, how the world can be dark and ugly and scary but there still can be things as beautiful as love and friendship, as Christian values and moral people who still try to do the right thing.

As always, never alter my graphics, comment, credit, and enjoy!

Teasers:
1 2 3

Please, if you take anything, be so kind as to take note of the numbers of the icon(s) you're saving, since I am always experimenting with my styles and I would like to know what people like best. (This helps me so I can make more!) The numbers are above the icons. ;-)

He's great, isn't he? He's almost better than Margaret or Mr. Thornton... *pause* ...but not quite. ;-D
Emily: marian[info]hominygrits on April 25th, 2008 12:54 pm (UTC)
I really love the cropping of 28! Gorgeous icons, as usual! :-)

I like 31.

I have never actually seen this "North and South". The movies I know are The Blue and the Grey (which we particularly like) and "North and South" - the one with Patrick Swayze and bunch of other notable & semi-notable actors.

This looks like a very good movie. What is it about?
olde_fashioned: N&S -- Margaret north & south mill glow[info]olde_fashioned on April 25th, 2008 04:47 pm (UTC)
You're right, it's a VERY good movie! It's about a young woman born and raised in the south of England who's father abandons his profession as a clergyman and uproots his family to the bustling manufacturing town of Milton, far away in the north of England. It's basically a case of culture shock for her, moving to a place that's much more dark, dirty, and rough than what she's used to. The people, especially, are fiercely indpendent, outspoken, and industrious. Both the Northerners and the Southerners tend to look down on each other and have little appreciation for the other's way of life, and slowly but surely, each side comes to learn that they might have made a few mistakes when they judged the other. :-) It's wonderful, it's compelling, and it has a fantastic social drama, not just a great love story.

By all means, rent this!!

Edited because this comment isn't long enough already: this is worth a watch for the fabulous costumes, the gorgeous music, and beautiful scenery alone. Also the acting is top-notch, with some really amazing talent IMVHO. ^-^

Well, m'dear, looks like you're experimenting with some very nice new textures. :D

1 & 2 - nice contrast, and text :D I'll probably steal one of these.
3 - nice colors and crop!
4 - Llooooooveeee!!! I love the coloring and fade-to-black. Did you do a yellow texture to light him up a bit? I might be stealing this one.
5 - oooo!!! I like a lot!
11 and 12 - Like the colors and such! :D
14 - Nice crop and texture.
18 - cool texture
19 and 20 - oooo! I like the fade-to-black and textures and coloring. I really like 19--I'll probably snag that. :D
29 and 30 - Awwwwwwwwwwwww
35 and 36 - like the textures a lot. :D

Lovely job!!!
olde_fashioned: N&S -- a summer's romance[info]olde_fashioned on April 25th, 2008 04:55 pm (UTC)
Yup! You noticed!! :-D

I thought you would like nos. 1, 2, 4, and 5. ;-D #4 is not really a yellow texture, it's more of a combination of a whole bunch things, (and I duplicated and screened layers to get him lighter) but one of them *is* yellowish. You're welcome to them if you would like!

Thank you veddy much!! *bows*
